Filthy Witch

At Filthy Witch, soap is more than a simple luxury - it's where ritual meets self-care. Every bar is handcrafted in small batches using the ancient art of cold-process soap making. Akin to alchemy of earth, water, and spirit; infusing botanicals, essential oils, and a touch of magic. Our soap bars are lovingly crafted to cleanse not just the skin, but also the spirit, transforming everyday rituals into moments of magic.

Frequently asked questions

Will you be using Fragrance oils?

Yes, I plan to use fragrance oils in some of my bars. The reason for this is simple: there are more choices with fragrance oils than essential oils, allowing me to create a broader range of products for you to enjoy. I will, of course, ensure that all fragrance oils used in my products are sourced from reputable companies that share the same environmental ethics as I do.

Why is cold process soap better than store bought soaps?

One of the most essential reasons why cold process soap is superior to other store-bought soaps is that handmade, natural cold process soaps retain all the glycerin created during the saponification process. This glycerin is generally removed from standard store-bought soaps to sell as separate natural glycerin. However, in cold process soaps, it is not removed, and its excellent moisturising properties are fully retained in each bar. Additionally, in the natural method of soap making, you have complete control over the ingredients used in the soap.

Should I be concerned about the allergens?

If you aren't allergic to any of the allergens, you have nothing to worry about. The allergens (marked in bold on every label) are naturally occurring in the essential oils. Some allergens in fragrance oils are not naturally occurring. My bars have been carefully curated to ensure I am keeping to safe levels, whether they are made with fragrance oils or essential oils, and are tested before I sell them, so you should not experience any irritation. If any irritation occurs, please discontinue use and let me know so I can look into why it happened. Your comfort and happiness are my top priority!

Why Cold Process?

Using the cold process method allows for design flexibility, offering more options for intricate swirls and layers due to its thinner consistency when poured. By using the cold process method, I ensure each batch results in a creamier, more deeply moisturising lather because the glycerin produced during the natural saponification process is retained in the final bar. Additionally, the lower temperature in the cold process method helps preserve the efficacy of delicate ingredients, such as essential oils. This method also enables precise control over ingredients, resulting in a high-quality, gentle bar of soap.

Why do you use essential oils?

Using essential oils in cold process soap provides a more natural scent, offers aromatherapy benefits, is friendlier to the skin, and achieves the holistic feel that I aim to create. It can be more environmentally friendly, and allows me to create unique scent profiles for each bar.

Is everything eco-friendly?

Having just started this venture, not everything is as eco-friendly as I'd like, but I am actively working towards making everything that can be eco-friendly, will be! Currently, I am using non-biodegradable greaseproof paper to wrap the soap bars, but I am using labels made from recycled materials. I plan to change all packaging to be either recyclable or biodegradable as soon as I gain some traction.

Will you sell stuff other than soap?

Eventually, I aim to expand into other bath and body products, such as shower gels and bath bombs, as well as candles.
